This year I attended Mixed, a food conference that took their experts on the road this year. Luckily, they headed to Texas, which gave me the chance to see my family (thanks to my friends who gifted me the experience as a grad present…they’re awesome!). Besides meeting some new friends, among my faves was Grits and Chopsticks, I had the opportunity to learn from Helene of Tartelette and Tami of Running with Tweezers.
I have been a long time fan of Helene’s food photography and was thrilled to get some pointers on composition, lighting and workflow. In terms of styling, Tami was wonderful as well. I learned about her from an article in Click, so I knew she had a ton to offer in terms of tricks of the trade and tools for improving food for camera. These ladies are amazing and the experience at Mixed was phenomenal. I can’t wait to use all the information I came home with to improve my personal work. For now, I leave you with the photos above. I styled and photographed these while taking a class with Helene and Tami. There are a few things I’d change, but for such limited time, it came out pretty nice I think.
