Puff pastry – my go to when I need to turn a regular ingredient into something a bit snazzier. Let’s face it, chicken pot pie would not be the same without that flaky crust to break into with a spoon and turnovers would merely be filling if it was not for the buttery wrapping surrounding it. From one foodie to another, when you feel as though your dish is so very blah, reach into your freezer for a sheet of puff pastry. It will make your food dazzle.
Pictured above was a simple Saturday football snack (pigs in a blanket) I made for the hubby and myself to enjoy while watching the playoffs. Sure, I could’ve thrown these cocktail sausages into a crock pot full of sauciness, but how predictable is that? So thoughtless and boring. Luckily a sheet of puff pastry saved the day. A triangle of pastry, a quick roll and a sprinkling of sesame seeds and freshly cracked pepper was the perfect treat from the oven.
