Finally I was able to take some time to read more of Plate to Pixel. It has been a long-term goal of mine to learn how to photograph my food as well as style it so I can share food with you in all its stunning glory. I’ve always found food styling and photography to be quite difficult, but as I read and learn, I find it can be easy if I understand the fundamentals.
To begin, I thought I’d take baby steps and grasp colors. It is so important to have an eye for colors that compliment one another, and by using a jar of orange marmalade from my refrigerator and fabric from my stash of too many miscellaneous remnants, I experimented to find the best pairings with this bold orange.
I never knew how many colors went with orange. It’s so stunning and vibrant.
For me, I found this exercise to be very useful and will be great when I photograph future citruses among many other food items that are of similar colors.
At the end of the day, I want to start from the beginning learning about food photography so I have a solid foundation to build from. To ensure I start off on the right foot, I think my next assignment will be to photograph fruits, vegetables, spices, etc. in their own elements and work with lighting to highlight them to the best of their being.
I hope you will enjoy future exercise food photos I will be experimenting with and perhaps my learnings will help you become a better food photographer as well. And if you have feedback, please feel free to share. I can always use constructive notes to help me grow.
