I don’t know about you, but July 4th to me is about celebrating our freedom with great company, activities (fireworks) and best of all – delicious food! With less than a day left, have you completed your patriotic menu? If not, here are some ideas and tips to help you fill in those gaps.
I find that one of the best menu items to serve a crowd is sliders. First of all, sliders can be mass produced easily and there are several options to choose from. Try pulled pork, a simple brisket with your favorite barbecue sauce or go classic and make bite-sized burgers. If you want to go the extra mile, make homemade buns. Guests will appreciate the freshly baked bread and adore you for it.
Serve your sliders with yummy homemade potato chips. They are so easy to make and taste much better than the store-bought kind. But don’t settle for the plain option, dress up your chips by adding a variety of seasonings or use different types of potatoes. Try Parmesan Pepper Potato Chips, Homemade Barbecue Potato Chips or go bold with Sea Salt and Rosemary Sweet Potato Chips.
Now for dessert – my specialty. You can be adventurous and try these Red, White and Blue Raspberry Candy Bars by Cherry Tea Cakes that are so fabulous! But if you’re aiming for something nostalgic, pie is the way to go. You can make a traditional apple pie, go for the hand pie that is great for parties (try Blackberry Hand Pies or Bourbon Peach Hand Pies) or make fried pocket pies and dust them with powdered sugar.
This celebration is far from complete unless you have a patriotic beverage. There are several great drinks for you to choose from including an Apple, Ginger & Cranberry Vodka Cocktail, kid-friendly patriotic drink and raspberry lemonade. For a little more fun, try making these red, white and blue ice cubes that will help chill your drinks while you enjoy fireworks.
Well, have a wonderful Sunday, and I hope I was able to help you complete your menu.
