As some of you might have noticed, I am a bit behind with my cookie challenge postings. Sometimes my everyday life gets in the way of my blogging and baking, but I did pick up the last bit of ingredients for the final cookie and my hope is to blog about it this week. Believe me, I am more than thrilled to try a new recipe and am anxious to share it with you.
On another note, I am a huge fan of the show Chopped, and if you have not seen it yet, you should definitely tune in. It’s great to see chefs from different backgrounds showcase their talent by coming up with unique plates using mystery products from a basket. This week however, I must say I was disappointed about the winner. Maybe it’s because I’m Vietnamese that I was more frustrated when a chef tried to pass off an incomplete dish as Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich). It in no shape or form resembled the sandwich I grew up with, and this mistake did not happen just once, but twice! Somehow he still won, but I believe by default since the other contestants made many mistakes as well. Usually it’s such a great show, but this week, I give it a simple, “meh”.
Now, if you want to find out more about Banh Mi, just wait until August 15 when The Great Food Truck Race premiers on Food Network. Nom Nom Truck out of Los Angeles, CA will compete on the show and guess what their specialty is? That’s right…Banh Mi!
I am so happy for Vietnamese food to be in the limelight and hope the team does well.
Perhaps it’s time for me to make homemade french baguettes and put together a tutorial on how to make baguettes as well as this delicious sandwich. Hmm…is that something you would like to learn?
